What a shock it was to stroll into FE’s tonite and see a room full of greasy bikers rubbing elbows with yuppies bumping into hot college chicks doing belly shots with a bunch of rowdy pool sharks at this otherwise mellow pool hall/blues room, and what a hell-uva sound coming from that power trio up on stage! The Hammer, lead singer and guitar slinger, looks like a cross between John Redcorn, Elvis and Chris Cornell. He sings like the dude from The Black Crowes and plays his guitar like Jimi Hendrix on Jack, not Acid. Bassman, Tommy Ray and drummer Cecil Freeman are probably the best rock and roll groove section since Double Trouble and they sing like larks to boot. These handsome boys had all the girls going wild and all the boys bopping along all night. They are the real deal. They got me wanting to “Fly Away To A New Kind Of World” with them!! Go see The Gypsy Sons locally while you still can! ASAP!

THE GYPSY SONS are known for being hot, hard working, blue collar boys. Their own unique blend of rock and roll with lyrics like, “Man, I’d wrestle a gator and strangle a snake, just to take you home with me,” and “I’ve had some good ole friends for all of these years,” live with you long after you first hear them and serves to show that these boys are all about connecting and having fun with their audience. THE HAMMER’s patented, “YOU PEOPLE ARE CRAZY,” TOMMY RAY’s persona and onstage antics along with CECIL’s hilarious sense of humour are just a few of the things that keep their loyal fans and friends coming back for more. Currently, you can catch them on tour in America in support of their new record “The Greatest Moment.”

THE HAMMER - has had numerous successes with his different bands. He’s been signed to major labels and has shared the stage with multi-platinum selling acts. This Virginia boy taps deep into his early childhood violin and saxophone training, to create the soulful guitar riffs and melodies that lay the groundwork for the foot stomping rockers and the sugary sweet ballads. His stellar guitar work and lyrical mastery help in nudging this “little engine of a band that could” forward.

TOMMY LEE RAY - What can you say about this prodigy that hasn’t already been said and where on earth would you start. Tommy is a VA native and boyhood friend of both The Hammer and Cecil. He is an extraordinary musician. He brings a magical low end chemical groove with his bass playing that propels the undercurrent of The Gypsy Sons. Did we mention that he’s a wizard on the piano, banjo, dobro, keys, drums, cropdusters, fiddle and so many more instruments and gadgets that the rest of the guys told me to stop mentioning it…

CECIL FREEMAN- is a hard hitting drummer with a back beat style that holds down the fort. His influences are John Bonham and Charlie Watts just to name a few. Cecil has played in several great bands in the States. He’s toured all over the country as well as Australia. Born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, he lived in Los Angeles for several years before coming back home. We guess he had to leave home to find his roots!
